vos_delentry - Delists a volume from the Location Service.
vos delentry [-id <volume name or ID>+] [-prefix <prefix of volume whose VLDB entry is to be deleted>] [-server <machine name>] [-partition <partition name>] [-dryrun] [-cell <cell name>] [-noauth] [-auth] [-localauth] [-encrypt [<yes|no>]] [-verbose] [-noresolve] [-config <configuration file>] [-help]
The vos delentry command delists each specified volume from the Location Service. A specified volume can be any of the three types (read/write, read-only, or backup), but all three volume types are delisted no matter which of the types is specified. The command does not remove the volumes stored on File Servers; if they exist.
This command is useful if a volume removal operation successfully removed volumes from the File Server but failed to update the Location Service (perhaps because the active tokens expired or were destroyed while a vos_remove(1) was running). vos delentry can be used as an alternative to the cell administrator running the vos_syncfs(1) and vos_syncloc(1) commands to synchronize an entire File Server.
To delist a single volume, use the -id argument. To delist groups of volumes, combine the -prefix, -server, and -partition arguments. The following list describes how to delist the indicated group of volumes:
Every volume whose name begins with a certain character string (for example,
sys.
or user.
): use the -prefix argument.
Every volume for which the Location Service lists a site on a certain File Server: specify the file server name with the -server argument.
Every volume for which the Location Service lists a site on a partition of the same name (for instance, on the /vicepa partition on any File Server): specify the partition name with the -partition argument.
Every volume for which the Location Service lists a site on a specific partition of a File Server: specify both the -server and -partition arguments.
Every volume whose name begins with a certain prefix and for which the Location Service lists a site on a File Server: combine the -prefix and -server arguments. Combine the -prefix argument with the -partition argument, or both the -server and -partition arguments, to delist a more specific group of volumes.
Do not use vos delentry to delist a volume under normal circumstances. It does not remove a volume from the File Server, and can result in the Location Service becoming out of sync with the state of the volumes on File Servers. Use the vos_remove(1) command to remove the volume from the File Server and update the Location Service.
Specifies the complete name or the volume ID number of each volume to be delisted from the Location Service. The Location Service will lose its knowledge of all of the associated volumes (read/write, read-only, backup and clones) regardless of which volume name or ID version is specified.
Provide this argument or some combination of the -prefix, -server, and -partition arguments.
Specifies a character string of any length; the Location Service will provide the set of volumes whose name begins with the prefix string; all of the matching volumes will be delisted. Include field separators (such as periods) if appropriate.
Combine this argument with the -server and -partition arguments to further restrict the set of volumes.
Identifies the File Server on which one or more volumes reside that are to be delisted from the Location Service. Provide a fully qualified host name, an IP address or UUID as reported by vos_listfs(1).
Combine this argument with the -prefix and the -partition arguments to further restrict the set of volumes.
Identifies the partition on which one or more volumes reside that are to be delisted from the Location Service. Provide the partition's complete name with preceding slash (for example, /vicepa) or use one of the three acceptable abbreviated forms. For details, see vos(1).
Combine this argument with the -prefix and the -server arguments to further restrict the set of volumes.
Show the actions which would be taken, but do not make changes.
Names the cell in which to run the command. Do not combine this argument with the -localauth flag. For more details, see vos(1).
Assigns the unprivileged identity anonymous
to the issuer.
Do not combine this flag with the -localauth flag.
For more details,
see vos(1).
Obtains an authentication token using the server encryption key with the highest key version number in the local /etc/yfs/server/KeyFileExt file. The resulting token never expires and has Super User privileges. Do not combine this flag with the -cell argument or -noauth flag. For more details, see vos(1).
Use the calling user's tokens from the kernel or as obtained using the active Kerberos ticket granting ticket to communicate with the Volume Server and Location Service. This is the default if neither -localauth nor -noauth is given.
Since this option is the default, it is usually not useful for running single command line operations. However, it can be useful when running commands via vos_interactive(1) or vos_source(1), since otherwise it would be impossible to switch from, for example, -localauth back to using regular tokens during a bulk operation.
Produces on the standard output stream a detailed trace of the command's execution. If this argument is omitted, only warnings and error messages appear.
Enables or disables encrytion for the command so that the operation's results are not transmitted across the network in clear text.
Shows all servers as IP addresses instead of the reverse DNS lookup hostname.
-noresolve useful when troubleshooting no such volume
and volume moved
errors.
Set the location of the configuration file to be used. The default file is /etc/yfs/yfs-client.conf.
Prints the online help for this command. All other valid options are ignored.
The following message confirms the success of the command by indicating how many volumes were delisted from the Location Service.
Deleted <number> VLDB entries
The following command delists the volume user.temp
from the Location Service.
% vos delentry user.temp
The following command delists from the Location Service every volume whose name begins with the string test
and for which the Location Service lists a site on the File Server fs3.your-cell-name.com
.
% vos delentry -prefix test -server fs3.your-cell-name.com
The issuer must be listed in the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file on the File Server specified by the -server argument and on each Location Server. If the -localauth flag is included, the issuer must instead be logged on to a server with an account capable of reading the /etc/yfs/server/KeyFileExt file.
