bos_adduser - Adds a privileged user to the UserListExt file
bos adduser -server <machine name> -user <user names>+ -type <user type: superuser|reader> [-rxkad] [-cell <cell name>] [-noauth] [-localauth] [-principal <authentication principal> [-encrypt [<yes|no>]] [-verbose] [-config <configuration file>] [-help]
The bos adduser command adds each user name specified with the -user argument to the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file on the machine named by the -server argument. It is the issuer's responsibility to verify that an entry for the user exists in the Protection database and the Kerberos 5 database(s) for the realm(s) listed in the /etc/yfs/server/krb.conf file.
Indicates the server machine on which to change the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file. Identify the machine by IP address or its host name (either fully-qualified or abbreviated unambiguously). For details, see bos(8).
In cells that use the Update Server to distribute the contents of the /etc/yfs/server directory, it is conventional to specify only the system control machine as a value for the -server argument. Otherwise, repeat the command for each file server machine. For further discussion, see bos(8).
Specifies each user name to insert into the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file.
Indicates that the specified user names are rxkad names.
Indicates the type of user to be added. Users are added to the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file if the superuser type is specified or if this option is not present. If the type is reader the users are added to the /etc/yfs/server/ReaderList file. Users on the /etc/yfs/server/ReaderList are allowed to perform many query operations but are not allowed to perform operations that modify the configuration.
Names the cell in which to run the command. Do not combine this argument with the -localauth flag. For more details, see bos(8).
Assigns the unprivileged identity anonymous
to the issuer.
Do not combine this flag with the -localauth flag.
For more details,
see bos(8).
Constructs a server ticket using a key from the local /etc/yfs/server/KeyFileExt file. The bos command interpreter presents the ticket to the BOS Server during mutual authentication. Do not combine this flag with the -cell or -noauth options. For more details, see bos(8).
Indicates the principal to be used for authentication. This option can be useful when several credentials caches are available for different principals.
Enables or disables encryption for the command so that the operation's results are not transmitted across the network in clear text.
Produces on the standard output stream a detailed trace of the command's execution. If this argument is omitted, only warnings and error messages appear.
Sets the location of the configuration file to be used. The default file is /etc/yfs/yfs-client.conf.
Prints the online help for this command. All other valid options are ignored.
The following command adds the user names pat
and smith
to the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file on the machine fs1.example.com
(the system control machine).
% bos adduser -server fs1.example.com -user pat smith
The issuer must be listed in the /etc/yfs/server/UserListExt file on the machine named by the -server argument, or must be logged onto a server with an account capable of reading the /etc/yfs/server/KeyFileExt file if the -localauth flag is included.
